Party Poker
is running a first of its kind promotion, the $250,000 Online Cash Game Championships. This promotion is open to all players, not just high rollers and has a total prize pool of $250,000. The competition runs throughout April, and is divided into 7 levels. First of all, players must opt in before Level 1. At each level players must play 400 hands to qualify. The most profitable players of this group move on to the finals. The first level starts April 5th and goes until April 9th.

The top 30% of players move on to Level 2, while the other 70th get a second chance, with 10% of those getting to go to Level 3. The Top 30% of players who make Level 2 get to move on to Level 3, and get a $50 cash prize. Level 2 takes place from the 12th through the 16th. Level 3 takes place from the 19th through the 21st, and the Top 30% of this level move on to Level 4 and get $200. Level 4 lasts from April 26-27th, and the Top 50 players get $400 and move on. Level 5 lasts from the 29th to the 30th and the top 18 players get $1,500 in cash and $1,500 to sit at the tables in the next level.

Level 6 starts May 3rd, and players are judged over play over 500 hands, with a minimum of 400. The top 6 players get $5,000 in cash, and $5,000 for the next level. Level 7 is the same structure, you are judged over 500 hands and must play at least 400 on May 7th. 1st place gets $40,000, 2nd gets $20,000 and 3rd gets $10,000.

Here’s how winners are judged. Each level takes place at a certain stake.

Level 1, 2 and the Second Chance are played at $.5/1.
Level 3 and 4 are played at $1/2.
Level 5 is played at $2/4.
Level 6 is played at $5/10.
Level 7 is played at $10/20.

Winners are determined by how much profit you have made. Profit is calculated as Total Win – Total Bet = Profit. Rake taken from the pot is not considered part of the profit. You cannot play heads up to qualify, there is a minimum of 3 players at a table required for this promotion.

So, that is it. It is a pretty complicated promotion, but if you are a regular at .5/1 or 1/2, this seems like a good thing to try. The premise is pretty confusing, and it won’t actually determine who is the best cash game player, but it is a chance to win some extra cash, and who knows maybe a lot of it. I just hope you don’t hit a downswing during April! Not a member of Party Poker? Click here for more information or to sign up.
